73/100 MARKING COMMENTS

Research & Planning 15/20:
After an initial slow start this student really impressed in overcoming some issues to achieve good research into similar texts and target audience. Organisation of models and the production of the text was well executed. The students has provided drafting and clear evidence of work in progress shown. The presentation of research and planning is good and time management of the production was very good.

Text 42/60:
A technically excellent response with some elements which demonstrate the candidate’s ability in Photoshop well beyond what he was taught in class.  However, it lacks the cohesion and accessibility of a ‘real media text’, with it being quite challenging to receive/read.  The magazine would have worked better without the 3D effect and whilst it is justified by the candidate it does nothing for the magazine and actually detracts from what could have been an excellent piece of work.  The sell lines look rather scruffy and as a complete artefact there is a lack of finish which doesn’t come from lack of time nor ability but rather a failure to leave the work alone!  A variety of images all well taken and edited/altered well.  Conceptually and technically a very good piece of work but too much is going on.

Evaluation 16/20:
The student has shown a sound understanding of issues around audience, institution, technology and representation. In addition he shows a clear understanding of forms and conventions of music magazines as shown in the discussion of the way in which the text produced challenges some of the conventions of similar texts. The student provides a clear discussion of decisions made and the development between the preliminary task and the main task. Communication is effective and the candidate has shown initiative in using a range of media in this evaluation, that also includes an evaluation of the main production by his target audience. A good effort for this student.
